O'Briens

O'Briens
A twelve year journey including a very long ortho surgery residency, first year as staff, a move to Fort Irwin AKA The Moon, a move back to DC, and now finally settling for a while in the Augusta, Georgia area-this blog tells a story of a boy and a girl leaving NYC, both switching careers, joining the Army, starting our family, loving, losing, living... Buckle up, this life of ours is bumpy, but full of love and lots of adventure.

Cure for Blood Cancer

Fred is graduating in a few weeks and his family is coming out to celebrate next weekend. This is something that has been twelve years in the making-two years postbach, four years of medical school and six years of residency. Whoo Hoo! I am so proud of Fred for leaving his comfortable life and having the courage to do something to help others. It is especially important on a weekend like this weekend. Again he was on call on a holiday weekend, but I know he was making a difference in a soldier and their family's life. So often we forget what sacrifices are made in the name of our country.

In honor of Fred's graduation and his accomplishments, next weekend we are participating in a friend's cause. Rosana has been a rock for me for the last month and a half, and she has been working tirelessly on her friend's A Cure for Blood Cancer cause all year. What a perfect fit--the perfect event to participate in next weekend while our family is in town.

Our grief is still so fresh, but I can't even imagine losing two people you love.  My heart goes out to Nonie and her family.

Please take a look and join us in the Family Fun Fest Run for the Cure for Blood Cancer. If you can't join us, then donate toward this worthy cause.
